In fact, it almost freaked me out.
For the last couple of years, scientists have discovered many sink holes, both large and small in the north part of Russia. It caused many concerns among the geologists in the country and also around the world. This year, they discovered something even more strange than sink holes in the location of Belyy Island, the north part and the very tip of the Yamal Peninsula, Siberia, Russia.
Now before we jump straight to the footage, I just wanted you to know that i’ve seen some weird grass back in my days, but what you are about to see here really topped my list.
Check it out.
Isn’t that weird? It almost reminded me of the breathing earth in Italy.
According to Alexander Sokolov and Dorothee Ehrich, both members of the Environmental Research Centre, they have only encountered this once throughout their professional career. That’s why it came as a shock when they discovered more patches like this in 2016. As a matter of fact, they have spotted a total of 15 patches of this very same bubbling ground on Belyy Island.
Further research were conducted and they discovered large air pockets filled with methane and co2 underneath these patches of grass and soil. The concentration level readings however were scary, with the methane gas 200 times above normal and carbon dioxide 20 times above normal.
While it is not 100% certain why these air pockets were form, there are speculations that global warming and climate change are responsible for these phenomenons. The melting of permafrost are creating these methane gases and when they are released back to the air, it will only speed up the warming process.
In saying all that, I don’t know if it means anything to you…
But if you care about the Earth, then please SHARE.
